Other Pain Conditions
Cancer pain is a result of cancer growth in human tissues or the pain produced by any of the therapies implemented to treat it. Acute and chronic pain is highly prevalent in cancer patients. Inadequate assessment and treatment of pain and other distressing symptoms may interfere with cancer therapy and markedly detract from quality of life. Though rarely eliminated, pain can be controlled in the vast majority of patients with an aggressive comprehensive medical management strategy. In cases where medications are ineffective or can not be tolerated by patients a variety of invasive and noninvasive measures are also associated with a high degree of success.
Medications: A combination of both non-opioid and opioid analgesics can be very effective.
